HAH!

We went to Sta. Lucia a while ago to buy some stuff. I got some fabric paint from National Bookstore, and proceeded to browse books while Ate checked out Papemelroti. Mehn, that place is a mess, NBS, I mean. And the selection was too small. Heck, what should I expect? I still like Fully Booked the best (no, not even the multi-leveled National Bookstore beside Gateway with its million books per square meter can beat that. Gave me a headache, that one). I browsed the children’s fantasy section, the one for 9-12 year olds. Haha, pathetic, I know. But I like seeing the covers, as long as I don’t have to read the content. I seem to have outgrown the kiddie fantasy books, as reading most make me grimace because of their redundancy. All the summaries at the back of their covers look the same to me.

For example: (insert hero/heroine’s name here), an ordinary (insert gender) is the only one who can save (insert magical land here). With the rising of (insert name of evil thing here), it is up to (hero/heroine’s name here) to fight IT, with the help of (insert name of magical being/thing here), and fight the greatest battle (magical land’s name) has ever seen.

And then most likely there’ll be one-liner quotes from whoever reviewed the story. The more, the better, I suppose, for credibility. They make the story seem more “fantastic”.

So anyway, enough of that. I just really like looking at the pretty covers, with the cool lettering. The section itself was VERY chaotic, like trying to look through stuff in a book sale, except the covers weren’t wrinkled. Kids around me kept pulling books off the shelves and sitting down to read. I do think that’s the whole purpose of the carpeted area. Nonetheless, it was due to that that you couldn’t find anything at all in there.

That said, the only thing I could do was pull out any book that caught my eye, just in case it was a good one. I came across many familiar names, though none that I was really looking for. Out of sheer boredom, I pulled out a storybook which was peeking out. About three-fourths of it was hidden from view; only a corner was sticking out, facedown.

I saw the art.

McKean! I flipped it to the front. GAIMAN!

*exultation!*
(triumphant music playing)

It was Gaiman’s Wolves in the Walls. Wow. And it was so random; it was the last thing I expected. Needless to say, you know what happened next.

I am a very happy person indeed.
